Osteoporosis was always at the back of my mind but when I hit the bump on the toboggan I knew I hurt myself bad. The pain was incredible! Worse than any labor pain. My hospital visit resulted in strong medication and a discharge home.
The next two days I could do nothing on my own, even with the pain medication, I needed my husband to help me turn in bed. He got me back to the hospital.
An x-ray showed a compressed fractured vertebra in my low back. It was not the first fractured bone I had suffered but definitely the most painful! I thought if this happened at 48 years of age, I would be in trouble if I did not change the path I was going down.
Once I had kids and was teaching full-time, life got in the way. I love to swim but knew I had to do something more than swimming to build my bones.
